Look for high temperatures to be in the 95°-100° range, with only those storms being able to offer relief. A lot of reasons to be extra careful out there.įriday continues this pattern, but edging more over toward the sunshine and heat. Eventually we get to the start of the next day (Friday), and we start it back up again. Once the Sun sets, the loss of heating will start to fade the storms, but it’s going to be too warm to see these things end completely. All this to say that we’ll be watching for some towering downpours to form and cause brief disruption wherever they travel (generally southeastward). Like dry kindling placed near a flame, it’s only a matter of time when ignition occurs. As the temperatures rise, more and more energy gets loaded into the air. As that sunshine steams up the afternoon, storms will appear to ‘pop’ from a previously dormant-looking environment. Check in on neighbors and the elderly, as heat exhaustion will result from overexertion. These are the kinds of days we always implore folks to partake in some extra hydration, to limit the amount of time outdoors, and to seek air conditioning for yourself (and your pets). ![]() A Heat Advisory is in effect for just about everyone this afternoon, because the “Heat Index” (a measurement that depicts humidity enhancing the air temperature) will be at or above 100° for a number of hours. Meanwhile, even a modicum of sunshine would mean temperatures are going to be in the 90s, as we’ll cross that line around lunchtime. In this situation, the air would be literally dripping with humidity, just waiting for a storm to make use of it. If this holds, this would be about as warm it gets concerning a ‘minimum’ temperature. (WSAZ) - Already from the start of the day temperatures displayed an unusual warmth with many locations beginning the day near 80°. I didn't modify it it is really that out of focus. Just as a final observation about Tony: The photo above is the actual official publicity shot from WSAZ's website. I would prefer reading his personal observations on the world. Tony has his own blog, although it is mostly a collection of weather articles. I would not recommend it to anyone.Īnother oft-repeated Tonyism is "The brown baggers over at Slack Plaza will enjoy the lunchtime sunshine." While this is probably true, Charlestonians know that most of the people with brown bags at Slack Plaza are usually enjoying pretty much everything about life by noon, if you get my drift. ![]() Charleston by saying things like "The temperature over at Celebration Station will be about 68 degrees by eleven-o'clock." It might be but I, for one, am not going to be walking around at Celebration Station at eleven PM. Since WSAZ TV-3 began their split Huntington-Charleston weathercast several years ago, Tony has tried his best to make it sound like he is Mr. Tony Cavalier seems like a nice person, and I'm sure he is very knowledgeable about weather forecasting, but sometimes he just tries to do too much. While not a Charleston figure, per se, he does invade our living rooms on a regular basis. ![]()
